JOB TITLE: Development Manager (DM)

REPORT TO: Oscar Menjivar

STATUS: Exempt, Full Time


TXT: Teens Exploring Technology

TXT: Teens Exploring Technology is a start---up not for profit organization focused on inspiring young men of color to become confident leaders who use technology as a tool to improve marginalized communities. Our interdisciplinary curriculum develops leadership, resilience, entrepreneurship, design and coding skills among underrepresented teens. Our programs consist of: 1) A Summer Coding Leadership Academy at USC, 2) an after---school program focused on Computer Science, 3) “The Cube”, a “hacker” space for kids to work and collaborate on creative ideas and new apps.

SUMMARY: Development Manager Job Description


The DM evaluates the effect of internal/external strengths and weaknesses of the organization to maximize its fund development potential. Recommends short- and long-range fund development plans and programs that support the organization’s values, mission and general fund raising objectives for long term sustainability. The Development Manager will develop, manage, execute, and lead grant applications, submissions, and reports. The person will Manages corporate, foundations, and individual donor outreach activities; She/he will Research new fundraising channels, establish major donor activities and cultivate new partnerships with untapped funders. DM will maintain and strengthen existing community and corporate partnerships. Track and monitor all program expenses, revenue, and fiscal needs of programs. In addition, to Implementing and overseeing fundraising initiatives, the individual will work closely with the Executive Director on donor relations and fundraising strategy in order to reach $5million budget over the next three years. Basically, helps us reach over 5000 youth by making it rain!
  • Develop and maintain trusting relationships with all TXT partners;
  • Handle all financial transactions (payments,billings,contractsanddisbursements)
  • Oversee the writing, editing, submission of all grant proposals and letters of Inquiries
  • Review and recommend application and proposal strategies to the Executive Director
  • Track all reporting requirements and submit all final grant reports
  • Research prospective foundations and companies that can support operating funds and specific programs and projects. Manage and seek new opportunities through the current philanthropy community
  • Create and implement systems to manage the processing, recognition, and stewardship of donor gift
  • Create and execute donor pledge campaign, acknowledgments, and gift receipting
  • Manage the processing of individual donor pledge payments
  • Ensure all donors are appropriately acknowledged and thanked within 24-48 hours hours of making a contribution
  • Develop donor and sponsorship materials
  • Coordinate develop mental meetings of new and existing programs with corporate sponsors, and foundations
  • Assist in the management and development of TXT program expansion through fundraising
  • Collect and analyze data and statistical records to generate reports for Executive Director and Advisory Board

  • Manage day---to--- day operations as needed by CEO.


Desired Qualifications
  • Bachelor Degree, preferably with relevant work experience; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Excellent organization skills and a self------starter who likes being in entrepreneurial settings
  • Interested in coding, innovation and making with technology
  • Demonstrated ability to work well in a fast paced environment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Developing operations protocol, workflow and designing and implementing new processes
  • Demonstrated success leading and motivating teams in fast---paced environments with multiple priorities and deadlines, including the ability to supervise and give direction to staff, contractors, and vendors
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, creatively, with initiative and accurately with minimal supervision and within specific deadlines
  • Skill in analyzing information, problems, situations, practices, or procedures to define the problem or objective, identify relevant concerns for factors, identify patterns, tendencies, and relationships, formulate logical and objective conclusions, and recognize alternatives and their implications.
  • 2-3 years out of college with a passion for personal growth, preferred Four or more years of experience in a professional role.


Candidate will need a background check, have a car and CA driver’s license, and be willing to work
